*** = New Additions This Week

Misc News, Events & Announcements:

***Charlotte soul singer and frontman of The Monday Night All-Stars, Charles Hairston, died on Monday, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 61. There will be a memorial/celebration service at the Neighborhood Theater, 511 East 36th St in the No-Da district on Sunday, Mar 8, at 4:00 p.m. Reverend John P. Kee will preside and there will be many musicians performing and paying their respects.

"Hairston had a knack for making everyone in the audience feel special. Fans loved his rendition of Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile." They also loved it when he did "People Get Ready" by Curtis Mayfield, Sims said. Hairston would walk into the audience and sing to an individual. He would also improvise the lyrics."

On a personal note - This is so true! Unfortunately we didn't get to see Charles as much as we wanted, but many years ago at our first time at this Monday night show, I can tell you firsthand that Charles DID make me feel pretty special when he came off that stage and sang right to me in the audience. One of my fondest and earliest Charlotte musical memories.
